Dear Grammarians, is the following sentence grammatically correct?

I know the word "sleep" is an intransitive verb. Why don't the writer use "for" in front of " eighteen hours"? Is the phrase ""eighteen hours" direct object of the intransitive verb "sleep"? Thank you again.
