sentence structure

Hi, I have a question about a sentence structure.
I hope somebody help me.
Thanks in advance.

"When people imagine some undemocratic system introduced as a reform, they always implicitly or explicitly think of themselves as the holders of power in the new regime, and oneself, of course, is all-wise and perfectly virtuous."

In the sentence above, I don't understand the structure after "and".
Am I right if I understand as following?

they always ... think of themselves as ...
and
(they always ... think that) oneself, of course, is all-wise ...

Top answer

Yes. Most people tend to think of themselves as wise and virtuous, and the people who imagine themselves in charge in the new government believe they will rule in a wise and just manner.
