1. The use of "targeted" is a big odd. I think you mean "hire" not "fire." "Was intended" is not correct.
My son applied to a company that intended to hire one person and more than 20 people applied.
2. After the first interview, they would choose three people for the final round [of interviews] to determine which person would be offered the job.
