Sentence Structure

I am looking at a sentence:

"Seven states are classified as sinkhole prone, comprising 30% of the land area of the country. "

I feel that the sentence is not too good, because the participal clause "comprising ...." is too far removed from the noun phrase "seven states". Do native speakers feel the same way?
