Sentence Structure

If I use a past tense verb after the verb "I", does the rest of the sentence need to be changed as well? For instance,

I just wanted to see how you have been doing. Should it be" I just wanted to see how you had been doing"?

Thank you for your help and, of course, your valuable time.
