Could you please tell me if the below sentence is grammaticaly correct? The reason I am asking this because I wasn't sure if I had said it correctly.

I apologize for telling you that I know how to make these changes.

I thought I should have replaced a verb know with a past tense knew.

Any explanation of how this sentence should be read would be very much appreciated.
