sentence structure

Please advise me whether the following sentence is correct in its structure:

"Amino acids, amino alcohols, and piperidine derivatives are compounds of immense interest in nature and importance for the pharmaceutical industry."

The phrase ' in nature ' is unfortunate, in that the reader is unsure whether it applies to 'natural compounds' or 'the nature of the compounds' until s/he has finished reading the sentence. Actually, I would eliminate both nouns: ... of immense interest for the pharmaceutical industry.
