'At his leisurely pace, he got to his desk and sat down. Noisily, he took things out from his backpack and slammed them down on his desk with brute force, only for the sole purpose of causing further disruption to the lesson.'
The part I'm not really sure about is 'slammed them down on his desk', I'm thinking I should write 'slammed them down on the desk'.
What do you think?
Thank you.

It hardly matters. You don't need "only". The word "sole" does the job.
