Hello, 

I am not sure whether the three sentences make sense in term of grammar and semantics.

2. Because of extensive logging of forests, residents in mountainous areas fear that a typhoon, which brings heavy rainwater, will contribute to a massive landslide, covering houses with a great amount of soil, devastating people’s homelands, and killing lots of people.

3. Only when trees are thriving on the earth, do they function to protect people's from disasters.
