Sentence question

Is the sentence correct with or without 'for'?

We planned that to happen.
We planned for that to happen.

Or is 'for' optional and does not alter the meaning?

I see. so the word 'that' in the sentence I wrote is the event. right?

And yes I see what you are saying basically 'plan' usually is followed by 'for' when
