Sentence question

I would like to know if these sentences are correct? I am trying to say that we should not have changed our original classroom:

2. We should have just stayed 'at/in' the original room.

The apostrophes indicate my concern.

Thank you.
Mister Micawber1. We should have just kept to the original room.
Could you please explain how 'kept to' works in that sentence. Because I think 'stayed to' would be wrong and only 'kept to' is possible, right?

Right. They take different prepositions, that is all.
