Thanks, teacher.

Just out of curiosity, is the use of the simple past 'was' wrong, because I was told by a teacher that it is correct to use it to convey a consequence action of a status report?

You are reporting the event; therefore, present perfect is the native choice. Simple past is not wrong; it is just inappropriate.

Mister MicawberYou are reporting the event;
I see. So do you mean that both 'I have checked..' and 'has been removed' are two reporting events in the sentence? If so, I can see why the present perfect is required in the second one!

What if I did

Anonymousdo you mean that both 'I have checked..' and 'has been removed' are two reporting events in the sentence?
The latter more so than the former.
AnonymousWhat if I did not use 'have' in the first one,
That does not affect the second clause.

Mister MicawberThat does not affect the second clause.
I see. I thought that a reporting status should start from the beginning 'have checked' and could be followed by a second one, and not start in the second.

What about in this case: I have looked and found the keys in the cupboard.

You do not need a second have before 'foun
0
Anonymousou do not need a second have before 'found' because the reporting status is ''have looked' and the action is 'found', right?
I do not see that that is evident. The news is that the keys have been found.

I looked and have found the keys in the cupboard.

I see. This is kind of confusing because I was taught the other way round, where the status report is 'have looked' and 'found' is what happened. Do teachers have different opinions on that, because I am kind of confused now?

You'll have to wait and see. I am all for clear communication. If I don't understand an utterance, then it is wrong; it has failed.
