Grammar

sentence in a movie

I don't see how the first sentence is grammatical. Is it?

For the very same fame that had all summer been a source of satisfaction had become a threat.

Thanks

Anonymous I don't see how the first sentence is grammatical. There is only one sentence, and it is correctly composed. Adding 'now' would make it clearer: For the very same fame that had all summer been a source of satisfaction had now become a threat.
