My parents believed that girls who received

their husbands.

(A) could received
(B) had received
(C) have received
(D) No improvement

Answer is (D). Shouldn't it be (B) ?

Can you explain this with some example? Also, please tell me if I am right with the explanation below.

1) My parents believed that girls who received western education would make slaves of their husbands.

Explanation:- The above is in the past. It may be a conditional sentence which says if girls received western education , they would make slaves of their husbands.
