According to my book answer is A. But what is wrong with 'witness' . It also means the same.

I guess I'm not familiar with that one. There's "bear witness" or "bear false witness", but that's chiefly Biblical usage.

Google's N-gram viewer shows the use of "give witness" as negligible compared to the others.
