Hi, I am writing a paper on this play Glengarry Glen Ross for my Intro to Theater class. For those that don't know, GGR is, on its surface, a play about hyper-competitive real-estate sales. The prompt is to create an anti-GGR setting in which all the characters help each other and care for one another. I happen to be stuck on this one sentence, or, rather, only the middle part of it.
The sentence is as follows: "They created a great atmosphere in which teamwork—instead of the …
—was the straw that stirred the drink."
Will someone help me with the middle part? What I'm trying to describe is the destructively competitive atmosphere of most company cultures/sales forces/organizations, to contrast it with the friendlier one now taking shape in my writing prompt. I highly recommend the play for those unfamiliar with it. Thanks in advance
Perhaps eg They created a great atmosphere in which teamwork, instead of the destructive competition of most /sales forces,, was the straw that stirred the drink.
