Anonymous United States is currently ranked the highest country in obesity. Ranked - is the wrong choice of word in this sentence. It is not a contest like tennis in which players are ranked by win/lose.

  • Anonymous United States is currently ranked the highest country in obesity.
  • Ranked - is the wrong choice of word in this sentence.
  • It is not a contest like tennis in which players are ranked by win/lose.
  • However, it is understood and acceptable as a conversation.
  • I would translate it into a more media style statement : United States currently has the highest rate of obesity among developed countries.

Thank you for your help. I just want to double check on the last sentence you wrote. Is the word 'the' prior to currently necessary? It sounds off and like an extra word. Did you put it by mistake or is it just me?

Thanks!

All answers are incorrect for 2 reasons: 1. It's "The United States..." and 2. Mexico is now the leading country of obesity (and if you come and visit, you'll definately see why). They left the U.S. in the dust some years ago.

I used US just as an example for my sentences. So I can say that: the US is currently the leading country of obesity. Is that correct?

I did not mean to do that! But I did not get the response that I was waiting for, and I tried to send search for you to hear what you think. So I am glad you saw my post. I think I can not reach you if I am not a member. Would you please tell me what you think about the sentences and edit them for me, I like the way you teach and provide feedback.

Thanks in advance!

Then why don't you join?

If you think you know the answer better, why ask us at all? For many, many learners, the answer they want or expect is not the answer they will get.

Sorry, I did not mean that I know better. I just did not get the response for the last question, which is 'the US is currently the leading country of obesity. Of course, all of you know better than me! I just want to get feedback from you, as I like the way you teach. You are very straight forward and clear.

I would greatly appreciate your feedback on this subject!

I also got a bit confused because a teacher said to avoid the word 'leading' and another teacher used it in one sentence.
