Sentence: hear somebody read

I've read a sentence and I've got a doubt about it.

I set aside half an hour every day to hear Erik read.

Why not "I set aside half an hour every day to hear Erik reading." ? (I would use this sentence!)

What part of the English grammar I'm passing over?
