Speech & Pronunciation

sentence formation

Hi,

I was travelling in a cab with my colleagues, whilst we were talking one of my colleague got a phone call and I asked him who was in call My colleague said "I dunno it's a guy and he just asked me who am I?" My question is my colleague could have answered me " it is a guy and he just asked me who are you? " . Can you please tell me which one is correct? ? Both the sentence "he just asked me who am I" and "he just asked me who are you" are same in meaning?

Thanks
Bruce
