Sentence for a book

What is correct?

She bought the dress based on what he likes and dislikes. If he didn't like it, there was no way he'd let her wear it.
She bought the dress depending what he likes and dislikes. If he didn't like it, there was no way he'd let her wear it.

They're both grammatically correct, but based on seems much more fitting than depending here. Also, I don't think dislikes is needed. The dress was bought based on what he liked, not disliked.

They're both grammatically correct, but based on seems much more fitting than depending here. Also, I don't think dislikes is needed. The dress was bought based on what he liked, not disliked.
