Sentence diagramming

How do you diagram the following sentence?
That fearful sound of "Fire!" and "Fire!" let no man know is my desire.

Top answer

" [subject] is my desire. [predicate: verb and predicate noun] where the subject breaks down further, "man" being both the object of "let" and subject of "know", "sound" being the object of the verb "know", and "Fire! " being in apposition to "sound".

  • " [subject] is my desire.
  • [predicate: verb and predicate noun] where the subject breaks down further, "man" being both the object of "let" and subject of "know", "sound" being the object of the verb "know", and "Fire!
  • " being in apposition to "sound".
  • Hope that helps.

You would diagram that sentence the same way you would diagram this one:

[to] Let no man know that fearful sound of "Fire!" and "Fire!" [subject]

is my desire. [predicate: verb and predicate noun]

where the subject breaks down further, "man" being both the object of "let" and subject of "know", "sound" being the object of the verb "know", and "Fire! and Fire!" b
