Sentence Creating

1. Visitors are ferried to Madura from the city of Surabaya for a heart-stopping bull race, filled with excitement.
2. Visitors are taken by a ferry from the city of Surabaya to Madura for a heart-stopping bull race, filled with excitement.
Are the above two sentences grmmatical? Thanks a lot.

What you have is not completely wrong, but we normally leave out the article in expressions that tell how we travel.

by car, by train, by ferry, ...

@CalifJim, could you please give few more exceptions where we can leave out articles like the ones you posted?

As far I know, I know only one which is, "I go to college everyday". We don't use a/the before school/college/office in these kinds of sentences. Any more?

There are far too many to list. I don't know of an exhaustive list that exists anywhere. They have to be learned separately like individual vocabulary items.
