Hi
Please tell me which is the correct answer.
Choose the option which replaces the phrase in parenthesis to make the grammatically correct:
During the worst years of the Great Depression, America faced tremendous challenges as unemployment topped 25%. Many historians credit the New Deal and the World War II industrial complex (for propelling America) out of the depression and into a then-unparalleled time of economic prosperity. (1 Points)
1. with propelling
2. with having propelled
3. to propelling
4. as propelling
I think both 1 and 2 can be accepted as correct answers. But, the answer keys says 1 is the answer.
Please give your views.
vsuresh I think both 1 and 2 can be accepted as correct answers. An argument against (2) might be that this happened too long ago for the present perfect to be appropriate. Personally, I think this is debatable.
