Sentence correctness

Hi

Please tell me if I am correct in the changes I have made in the sentence.

(It is a from a letter in the Letters to the Editor column in a daily in our place)

To have/Having an absolute majority and restraining views put forth by intellectuals and not listening to common man is also an undeclared emergency.

Please give your opinion on the style. I think native speakers do not normally go for such convoluted constructions.

vsuresh Please tell me if I am correct in the changes I have made in the sentence. Your changes are fine, but frankly, I don't know what the writer is trying to convey, even with your corrections. Maybe it's the lack of context.
