Sentence correction Oct 7 17

Hi teachers,

Would you please correct my writing below? I have trouble using "the" or "some" with food names.

Sara and I went to a nearby coffee shop across from her apartment in the afternoon. We chatted while waiting to pick up Ben and Gina. We realized the server was looking/ checking us. So we went up to the food counter and ordered. I ordered the New York cheesecake and coffee black. Sara ordered a chicken salad, the carrot cake, the blueberry pie, a plate of cream puff that came in three little ones, and coffee black, which I thought was a lot to take in in one sitting. We stayed there until it's almost time to go pick up the kids from their schools. When we were about to leave, Sara shoved me a box of cream puffs and told me how much I loved them back then when we were working together at customer service. Now I think about it, it was the best time of my life at work since we were great at work together and we knew each other's work well we almost knew what the other would expect to finish the job.
