Sentence correction

Hello

Is it OK to say

I washed the dishes because I had realized they hadn't been cleaned? Or is it supposed to be "weren't clean"

I would use the simple past realized instead of had realized . With that improvement, both of these sentences are correct. I washed the dishes because I realized they hadn't been cleaned.

But its like I don't quite seem to figure out the differences between wasn't .. And hadn't been...


For example : " I begged mom to make pay attention to me because I saw she was talking on the phone / I saw she had been talking on phone."


Also why is "i saw" not being converted into "I had seen"? I mean , first he saw on the phone her and than h
