Hello. Could you proofread the following sentences, please?

When choosing a course of study, the most important factors to consider are being competitive and whether it is relevant to the career you want to pursue.

Unemployment increases the level of competition to personal qualifications.

By "being competitive" I mean it is important that the course of study makes you competitive for the career you want to pursue.

In the second sentence I want to say that unemployment increases the level of competition in terms of qualifications (that is, skills which can be certified and those which can't).
