Is this sentence correct?

Ask him if he wants to have you work in his lab.
Ask him if he wants you to work in his lab.

If both are correct, do they essentially have the same meaning?

To my mind, #1 focuses more on whether you are acceptable to him.

But both these statements depend a lot on the context they are part of. To find the meaning, you have to consider the context.

Got it. So the sentences may have the same meaning but the first, as you said, focuses more on whether I am acceptable to him, however, both sentences without any context may be difficult to interpret, unlike this straight forward
