sentence correction

I am guessing in formal writing I would have to use correct punctuation.

Is the word 'would' in that sentence a correct choice? Can the word 'will' be used instead? is either one correct?

Top answer

Both are possible. Would suggests that there is a possibility that you may do formal writing in the future. Will indicates certainty.

So the would indicates if I do formal writing I would have to use correct punctuation. Did I understand correctly?
