Sentence correction

Hello, Could you please tell me whether I can use both forms in the highlighted portions? If yes, could you tell me the difference between the two options? Thank you!

A) First, a child used to relying on their parents' protection might end up unable to cope with the challenges of adulthood; the/a child may remain largely unaware of the many dangers present in the world and, once deprived of their guardian's extensive care, may easily fall victim to the malice of the less naïve.

B) Finally, by trying to make their children's lives problem-free, parents deprive their offspring of the possibility of making choices and overcoming difficulties. This might have a negative impact on childrens's/the children's self-confidence and self-esteem.
