Sentence correction

Hi,

is the following sentence comprehensible and correct, please?

My guinea pig managed to squeeze under the pile / stack of wood I built up.

My second question is, do you use a "pile of wood" or a "stack of wood"?

Thank you in advance!

A stack of wood is more organized and neater than a pile of wood.

I'd say 'the stack of wood I built'. (No 'up'.)
