Please, could you tell me if this sentence is correct?


"He was a poet whom I fully identify with."

I would say "He is a poet ..." (even if the poet is now dead, for this purpose we can consider him to still exist through his works).

In formal English (and "whom" automatically makes the sentence formal), I prefer "... with whom I fully identify".
