Sentence confusion

I was walking around at the club so didn't get to socialize much.

Is this sentence ok? I'm talking about something that happened in the past. Or should it be:

I walked around at the club so didn't get to socialize much.

What's the different between these two sentences?

The first sentence is fine, but the second sentence could also be used if you said it like this:

I walked around a lot at the club and didn't get to socialize much.

Or if you wanted to make your meaning clearer, you could say:

Because I walked around so much at the club, I didn't get to socialize much.
