sentence comprehension

StartFragment>

"Just as it was God's will that human beings should work six days and rest and celebrate before the face of God on the seventh, so it is also God's will that every day should be marked for the Christian both by prayer and work."

I have a little trouble comprehending this sentence.. in particular, what does it mean that the day should be 'marked' for the Christian both by prayer and work?

Thanks a lot.

  • Marked for = reserved for.
  • The total interpretation is that every day should have an element of prayer, not just the 7th day.

Hi,

'Marked' here means 'made special'. The writer's idea is that one should remember to both work and pray every day.
