Sentence Completion?

Please help me find the correct answer, I am not sure which one is right between 2 and 4

1.) _______ home from the football field when it started to rain.

Only #4 is possible; S-V is out of order, and there is no way to walk boringly.

The reason I'm not sure is because I've never seen participle (like bored,) beginning in the sentence, and I suppose No.2 is inversion form. Thanks for the answer

That doesn't work with the comma, and the adverb is odd. With more reasonable adverbs and in a literary or poetic text, such is possible:
