Sentence completion?

Hi all

Having gathered in the room ...................

option a - the teacher informed the students about the regulations.

option b - the candidates talked about their campaign plans.

There is only one correct option here. Option A is the correct answer but I think both of them are fine, what do you think?

Anonymous Option A is the correct answer Hmm. That's strange. Only a group ( candidates ), not a single person ( teacher ), can gather in a room, so it seems to me that only b is correct.

You're right CJ. I checked the answer key again. Correct option is B.

But I don't understand one point. Teachers and studends together can gather in a room, right. I think "gather" is only used with plural nouns.

Yes, but the subject of the sentence is "teacher" (singular), and the 'having'-phrase applies to the subject of a sentence, not to everything mentioned in the sentence.
