Sentence completion

1.Because of the severe snow storm and the road blocks, the air force dropped food and medical supplies close to the city.

Here its written "roadblocks" should be replaced by "road blockades".Can anyone tell me the difference between the two with an example? Thanks in advance

2)The accused refused to answer to the policeman on duty.

Here its written "answer" will supersede "answer to".But i have read "answer to someone" is used when we are "accountable to" someone for the illegal or wrong which we have done and will have to explain to someone why we did it.

Here the accused refused to expain to someone why he did something which was illegal. Can't we let the sentence remain as it was?

Top answer

Thanks in advance It should actually be "road blockages". I can't decide what "road blockades" would even mean, and a roadblock (spelled thus) is normally interpreted to be when people stop traffic with a barricade to control movement along the road. "Roadblock" would also be technically correct for avalanches and landslides.

NakoolAs the sentence says "the air force dropped food and medical supplies close to the city" .So there must be "Road blockades".
I can't agree. For one thing, when you blockade anything, it's a single blockade no matter how many roads, rivers, ports, etc., you control. For another thing, I've never heard of a road blockade, and I can't imagine what that migh
