Sentence clarity

Hi. I have been trying to argue in my essay that knowledge (especially at the university) should go beyond the structure of education aiming at providing students with social and life-long skills apart from academic ones.

Could you please tell me whether my sentence in bold makes sense to you? If it needs any corrections, please let me know. Thank you in advance.
