Sentence choice

Hi Gooday,

Would anyone please tell me which is of better sentence? Or you may want to suggest another way of writing this sentence? Thank you:)

1. It was a shame for me as it has been the 4th consecutive years i'd spent that special day away from my mum.

2. It was a shame for me as it has been the 4th consecutive years i'd spent that special day without my mum being with me.

1. It was a shame for me as it has been the 4th consecutive years i'd spent that special day away from my mum.

2. It was a shame for me as it has been the 4th consecutive years i'd spent that special day without my mum being with me.

Both phrases are acceptable. I prefer #1. It's a little simpler
