Sentence check vol.7

Hello!

Please help me with thses sentences:

  1. Homosexuality can be defined as a sexual attraction to persons of one's own sex. (is “persons” correct?)
  2. On the one hand, a lot of people formally condemn prostitution but on the other, they accept such a form of earning money... (is “on the other” correct, I mean shouldn’t it be: “on the other hand”?)
  3. They never get emotionally involved and enjoy being as free as the birds. (is “as free as the birds” correct? I mean I know a singular form “as free as a bird” but can it be used in plural like this?)
  4. Some 'con men' offer crossword puzzles the profits from which go to support a worthy cause or organisation. (is it correct?)
  5. Since demand creates supply, a huge criminal hierarchy formed then around supplying prohibited booze (is this sentence correct?)
