Hi Everyone,I just found this sentence, which was written by a company that I used to work for many moons ago. Looking at it now, I think it's problematic. Does anyone see anything wrong with the following sentence?' The company has revised the updates as soon as they became available.'ThanksCC

This sentence grates me because of the present perfect - has revised.

I don't think it mixes well with the simple past - became.

To my mind, I think the sentence would read better this way:

' The company revised the updates as soon as they became available.' or
' The company has revised the updates and now they are available.'

The present perfect cannot be used when there is a mention of a specific time within the same sentence.

has revised ... as soon as ... violates this rule. "as soon as" is considered a mention of a specific time. In fact, almost any subordinate clause of time (when, once, now that, after, before, ...) will violate the rule.

I have seen him last month. Wrong.
I have seen him after the meeting. Wrong.
I have seen him before we went on vacation. Wrong.
I have seen him as soon as I got home. Wrong.
I have seen him when he raised his hand. Wrong.

I totally agree. I used to work for a company - that trains plain English. There were a few mistakes within their examples, and it's only NOW that I realise how wrong they were. Terrible company to work for BTW; worst job I ever had in my life. It's a pity I can't mention their name.
