Sentence check

"I said this sentence to mean that I am sorry."
Does this sentence make sense ?
Should I replace it with the following :
1. I said this sentence to convey that I am sorry.
2. I said this sentence in the sense that I am sorry.

I wouldn't use mean

convey and in the sense seems more reluctant to admit what the "sentence" is for (it is for an apology I assume?)

Here are some sentences I would use: (the words in parentheses are optional)

I said this (sentence) to express that I'm sorry (for...)

I said this (sentence) to express my regret (over ...)

I said this (sentence) to apol
