Sentence analysis

Hi!
I'm trying to analyse some sentences. This is the assignment:

Divide the following sentences into phrases, by means of slashes. Above each write its clause constituent function – S, V, dO, iO, sP, oP or A - and its realization in terms of phrase type - NP, VP, ADJP, ADVP, PP. Underneath state the kind of verb used in each using these terms: a) intransitive, transitive (monotransitive, ditransitive, complex transitive), copular; b) dynamic or stative; c) tense. The first one is done for you:

S:NP A:ADVP V:VP dO:NP A:NP
I / nearly / got into / the garage / that Sunday morning.
The verb ‘got into’ is a monotransitive, dynamic phrasal (verb + preposition) verb in the simple past tense.

a) She was upset.
b) Professor McGonaghall frowned.
c) She / pulled / the door / open.
d) She / gave / Hermione / the hat.
e) She / has / a very stern face.

Top answer

I / nearly (/) got / into the garage / that Sunday morning. She / was / upset. Professor McGonaghall / frowned.

  • I / nearly (/) got / into the garage / that Sunday morning.
