I did oscillate between wish and hope. Now I got it.

And so, is it always 'hope' when we wish someone success or good luck?

It depends on usage. We wish you good health, wealth and happiness. Notice the nouns after 'wish'. You cannot wish that I have good health, weath and happiness.

If I do not have good health, wealth and happiness, I could say, "I wish I had good health, wealth and happiness."

You could say to me, " I wish we were neighbours." But we are not your neighbours.
