Note that we use 'fine' in affirmative sentences to mean OK, acceptable, satisfactory. We don't use it in negative or interrogative sentences. I don't know why.

For some years now in the US, waiters and waitresses have been stopping by tables to ask Is everything tasting fine?

Hi

It's interesting how that word has changed. It's quite difficult to judge

- How was the meal?
- It was fine

In the UK, many people wouldn't take that as a compliment

It is something I am learning now. Thank you fivejedjon

Just as CJ has pointed out it is common in my place. (India)

(Is everything fine?)

By the way is it correct to say Is it OK?

Now I am thinking what I should I tell my students:

Should I ask them to avoid fine in negative or questions?

Please give your views.

Why is it not fine to do that?

It isn't because there would be anything wrong with the sentence - or even the meaning

But nowadays, people understand the word 'fine' in various ways. So I'd say it's good to choose other words
