Sentence

Hi
Please tell me if this sentence is appropriate in a letter submitted before the leave is taken.

Dear Sir

I will not be able to report to work from ......... to........ as I am leaving for my country tomorrow to take part in an important family function.

Please consider my absence as leave.

Thank you

Yours sincerely

Is this how you "request" leave in your company? It's odd to me that you call your boss "Sir" but you don't request leave, you simply inform them, the day before you leave, no less.

Hi Barbara
Actually it is leave letter which a student writes to his teacher.
I understand your point that we must request for leave, but I want to tell that it is become something very common in our place that parents write the leave letters wherein they just inform the teachers . In fact the letter is sent through students living nearby on the day the student takes leave.

So the letter should say "not able to attend school" not "not able to report to work."
