sentence

Hi
Please tell me if this sentence is OK.
This is commonly used in our place, in the biodata.

I promise that the details I have given about myself are true to the best of knowledge and conscience.

I find that sentence very strange indeed. First, 'promise' seems completely out of place there. 'vouch' or 'guarantee' are better candidates there but I would not use them.

  • "to the best of my knowledge " is often used when you're unsure about something (though you think it's true) but since you're talking about your personal data, this part should be completely left out.
  • The phrase is "to the best of my knowledge", not to the best of my knowledge and conscience".
