Please tell me if this sounds idiomatic.

Context: Parents receive children after a foreign tour,at the airport.

Our parents, who were waiting anxiously, received us with great joy on their faces.

As a non-native, I think I sometimes or probably always make things sound unnatural.

I don't know if this is true or probably I don't get words that fit well and sound natural in the context.

Not at all. What you wrote is natural enough. It's just that it is edging toward sounding like something written in a novel. But maybe that's the style you wanted. At any rate, it's good for increasing your vocabulary.
