Grammar

sentence

Hi
Please tell me if this is OK.

"Road accidents have become very common in our region, and does any one know how they happen?"

Is this a compound sentence?

Top answer

The sentence does not work very well for me. I think it would be better if "and" was changed to "but". The question is arguably somewhat unnecessary, since almost everyone has a pretty good idea of typical reasons why road accidents happen.
