Hi

Is it OK to say:

I’ve read this book four times already and each time I read it I discover something new which escaped my notice during the previous reading.

Is it because I added "during the previous reading" at the end of my original sentence? So if I say "before" or "previously" I can either use "had" or not to use it at all?

You can use any of the versions indicated above, with or without 'had'. As for not using any adverbial of time at the end, I think that sounds incomplete. If I were writing it, I would definitely keep one of th
